A bit about me

I fantasized from a young age about slinging words and spinning yarns to pay the bills. After all, it came easily—and it was fun.

The decision to pursue an English degree felt natural. But when it came to my career path, I was stumped. Children’s author? Graphic novelist? Editor-with-red-pen-sitting-on-worn-leather-chair?*

And so, while the majority of students who attend NYU complete at least one internship in their field of interest before graduation, I was not one of them.

Instead, I alternately buried my nose in my reading and explored New York’s craft beer scene, hoping to divine my future from the pages and foam. Perhaps it was fate, then, when a fellow regular at my neighborhood beer shop introduced me to a friend—one who “needed a writer.”

This friend turned out to be one of two agency co-founders. They needed a writer, yes. But what they really sought was a potential junior partner. Despite my lack of professional experience, the pair recognized my “hunger” and took a chance on me based on my writing skills alone.

Freshly graduated, I dove headfirst into #agencylife at Tailored Ink, entering what I now think of as my “Peggy Olson era.” I cut my copywriting teeth—and fast—while learning the ins and outs of agency management: lead acquisition, account management, herding cats managing freelancers, and more.

After more than 2 years with Tailored Ink, I made the move to a local agency (very close to home: the founder was my across-the-street neighbor) with about 150 team members. I adapted to remote collaboration with a larger group of colleagues—a skill that came in handy when we were acquired by PureRED and our small, close-knit team grew to 600+.

Today, with more than 5 years under my belt as an agency and in-house copywriter, as well as some freelancing for former clients, I’ve learned and written about a plethora of topics across diverse industries. But no matter the client, what I do is the same: I use words to tell stories; to educate, excite, and engage.
